I haven't read it myself yet! But I have read an article by Roger Martin talking about "Integrative thinking" in Rotman magazine (experience issue - downloadable). Roger Martin is Dean of Rotman School I think, and he's making integrative thinking into a USP for the programme there.

At a basic level, he's repackaging the subject of "design thinking" into a more MBA-friendly format. That's fine, because design thinking is really important: Don't get tunnel vision, think broadly and conceptually, think about the human and experiential elements of business, enable collaboration from a broad range of fields...

Anyway - sounds like I had better order the book too!

As a design strategist I would prefer the first one: Innovating our way out. Nurturing Innovation has been and definitely is one of the best options for beating an economic downturn and it is not difficult to find numerous instances for it in business world.

I have just ordered 'The Opposable Mind' from Nussbaum's book list. It was a new title for me and I am looking forward to discover it. I would like to read your comments about it.

Pleased you liked the strategies.

I see what you mean. Maybe 2 should come first because that strategy is the "easiest" on to contemplate.

But to be frank, it's about choosing the right strategy for your business, your market and your corporate culture. So any order could do.

Which ones are you going to try?

Hi Phil!
Thank you for your inspirational three design-based strategies. I just have a question: Do you think that the preference order of these three strategies could be best described with the order presented here (1 to 3)? Or maybe you doesn't think there should be any such order at all?
Special thanks for Nussbaum’s book list…
